Your waistline is a good indication of your overall health. Where we store our fat can be a predictor of health risk. Your waist-to-hip ratio can help you to keep your weight in check.

How to measure?

Using a measuring tape measure your natural waist where it is at its smallest, usually above the belly button. Next, measure around your hips, usually around the widest part of your bottom. Pop the numbers into this calculator.

Anything over 0.85 in women or 1.00 in men is associated with health risks.

If you are a little out of kilter, here are our top tips to whittle your waist.

Do a little more cardio that you usually do. Your yoga practice isn’t going to give you the recommended 160bpm that a cycling session will. So keep your yoga classes, yoga offers other benefits that will have a good effect on your waistline but up your cardio to 3 classes a week. You will notice the difference in the first week!

Don’t know how to start? Start with a one-to-one with master coach Nadine. A bespoke session will give you the confidence and technique to get more out of every class. The quality of movement is everything when time is precious.

Add in an extra Pilates class to your week, there is nothing better to draw you into shape than Pilates technique. Book into a one-to-one with our teachers so that you get the most out of class.

Last of all, you can accelerate the fat loss by cutting out your sugar intake, it's a sure fire way to reduce the bloat around the belly, sorry but that does include alcohol as well. Try eating a little protein and lots of greens at every meal instead to encourage denser and leaner muscle.
