Boost your immune system
When the months get darker our energies take a slump, introduce a little rest into your weekly routine to replenish, restore and recharge.
First thing in the morning: Tapping – make a fist and softly tap 20 times on the breastbone – this is said to stimulate the thymus gland and chi in general.
How does it work? The thymus gland is linked to the immune system and is situated behind the sternum, it serves a vital role in the development of T-cells, a type of white blood cell. T-cells defend the body from bacteria and viruses.
Straight after work: Add in one restorative yoga pose to your day. It can be as simple as popping your lower legs up on the sofa, as you lie of your back on the floor with a cushion at the back of your head.
Pop a light scarf across the eyes to keep out the light and to signal the relaxation response to kick in. Focus on your breath and start to allow the inhale to gently open the lungs like a sea sponge moving in 3D – feel the ribs moving into the floor, the ceiling and out to the sides of the body. As you exhale feel the breath draw everything back to the spine.
This relaxing and gentle inversion eases anxiety and stress and helps to calm the mind. 5 minutes of this pose as soon as you get home from work will help you to transition from work to rest.
How does it work? Yoga helps to lower stress hormones that compromise the immune system, while also conditioning the lungs and respiratory tract, stimulating the lymphatic system to shift toxins from the body, and brings oxygenated blood to the various organs to ensure their optimal function.
