Ruth McNeil - Glow Yoga and Pilates Teacher

28 May 2014

Ruth is a Glow Yoga and Pilates teacher, you can book into her classes here.

What is the best time of the day to practise/exercise?

I like the morning at around 9am, once my daughter is at school, the house is quiet and I've woken up enough to focus.

What do you recommend to eat before your class? after the class?

I prefer to practise yoga or Pilates on an empty-ish stomach...earl grey tea and a 9 bar are food of the Gods after class if I'm off to teach elsewhere...or if I'm back at home avocado with chili salt on toasted rice bread...yum!

What do you love about Good Vibes?

The fact that one of London's lost rivers runs beneath the Covent Garden studio, talk about Good Vibes...the river Fleet provides something special, I'm sure of it.

What do you teach in class?

Steady, mindful and strengthening yoga flow steeped in ancient teachings.

How will I feel after your class?

Light of body and happy of heart.

Tell us something surprising about yourself...

I've DJ'ed in front of 15,000 people at Sonar Festival.

Ruth McNeil is a lifelong yoga practitioner and an experienced British Wheel of Yoga accredited teacher.

Ruth trained at the Yoga Academy, Kent and in addition has completed a restorative and yin yoga intensive with Simon Low. Holly is a Glow Yoga teacher, you can book into her classes here.

What is the best time of the day to practice/exercise?

It's good to practice rather than not at all, so whenever you get the time is best!

What do you recommend to eat before your class? After the class?

Not great to eat before a class. Drinking lots is good and coconut water is lovely and keeps you hydrated too.

What do you love about Good Vibes?

The good vibes! One of the most beautiful studios to practice in I have experienced. It is like an oasis, a place to nourish & recharge, giving you an inner boost and allowing you to leave glowing.

What do you teach in class?

I teach dynamic flows and fire classes. My focus is to keep you connected to the breath, finding the internal alignment & clarity both physically & mentally. I like to guide students to find their own pace and move with fluidity.

How will I feel after your class?

After my class you will feel full and rested. There will have been a challenge, however no strain and lots of time to unwind.

Holly Warren's dynamic Vinyasa Flow teaching brings focus to awareness and movement of the breath, developing healthy body mechanics, alignment, postural strength, and vitality. She uses her extensive knowledge and keen eye to adapt each pose according to individual needs and thereby better facilitate personal growth and inner confidence. Having grown up within the yogic tradition Holly has been practising Yoga for more than 20 years, following a successful international career as a professional contemporary dancer.

25 May 2014

Get seriously fit

We want to see more men at Good Vibes and if you are a member or on a 10 class package, we want YOU to bring a friend of the male persuasion to try a class this month for free!*

Here’s why Good Vibes is a great fit for men:

Coming to classes is a more social activity than pumping iron at the gym. Working out with other people with the same goal is motivating. Getting to know your fellow class mates and being part of a nurturing community gives you a broader perspective to your working day.

We offer a more integrated approach to fitness, doing the same sport can overwork some muscles and under work other muscles. Training your body to be mobile and agile as well as strong and encouraging you to work with your body as opposed to fighting it, will help you to roll with the changes of life and keep you injury free.

Don't take our word for it, here is Frazer telling us about his first 3 months with us.

*New clients only and must be resident in London, photo ID card will be need to be shown prior to class.

Our male yogis have reported a lowering of blood pressure and cholesterol levels, better flexibility, an improvement in strength and co-ordination, better sleep patterns and a happier state of mind. Book in.

Clare Dobson - Glow Yoga Teacher

20 May 2014

Clare is a Glow Yoga teacher, you can book into her classes here.

Best time of the day to practice/exercise?

There isn't one! The best time of the day to do it is when it fits in your schedule!

What do you recommend to eat before your class and after?

Ideally nothing before, at least for an hour or two, but sometimes life doesn't happen that way and you find yourself rushing about. In which case I'd recommend a few bites of banana or a handful of nuts or dried fruit. Those are my go-to snacks when I need to get some fuel in my body before practicing or teaching. My favourite? A cocoa orange NAKD bar!

Afterwards is a different story, but whatever you eat it should have a good protein content. If it's meal time then that's easily fulfilled, otherwise I often aim for a nut milk, raw cacao and banana smoothie of sorts.

What do I love about Good Vibes?

Other than my fabulous students!? I love the fact that we're all encouraged to acknowledge each other at the beginning of class. I'm also a major lover of the SAD lights! Sunshine all year round!

What do you teach in class?

I like to think my teaching goes beyond the physical sometimes though I truly love to work on really fluid, challenging flow sequences that test the physical body. I always encourage everyone in my classes to recognise their own 'amazingness' - I'm a massive believer in possibility and learning how yoga can teach you to live a happier, healthier, bouncier life! We are all amazing human beings, we just need to recognise it!

How will I feel after your class?

FULL OF POSSIBILITY! Energised, happy and calmly content! (and like you've done a pretty hardcore thing!)

Tell us something surprising about yourself?

I have an alter-ego as a Marketing Consultant! I was also in a women's self-defence DVD with the SAS when I was younger - I even had an embarrassing centre page spread in Combat Magazine and Karate Magazine!

Clare Dobson has been practicing yoga for over 15 years and completed her BWY teacher training with The Life Centre and Yoga Campus in London. With a background in Sports Therapy she takes a strong interest in anatomy and the individualism of bodies. She has also completed a certificate in Yoga Therapy Techniques with the Yoga Biomedical Trust and is a registered Restorative Yoga Teacher.

The Benefits of Reflexology

18 May 2014

Perhaps understanding the many benefits of reflexology will encourage sceptics to try this wonderfully relaxing treatment. I have been successfully treating clients with Reflexology treatments for 10 years now and still enjoy the opportunity of helping others find balance in their life both on a physical and emotional level.

Foot reflexology is a safe and effective way of helping the body to heal itself. The idea is to treat the body as an entire connected organism as opposed to simply focusing on specific symptoms.

There are 7,000 nerve endings in each foot which explains why we enjoy a good foot massage and feel so much better when our feet are in good condition and so unhappy when they are in an uncomfortable state. Just think how miserable we can be at the end of a night out after squashing our feet into those too-tight shoes for the sake of fashion!

By stimulating specific reflex points on the feet, which are believed to be connected to various organs and glands using the thumb or forefinger this improves circulation and lymph flow, cleansing the body of impurities and revitalizing energy, therefore encouraging the body to naturally restore its own healthy balance.

Ridding the body of waste and toxins is extremely important to your health. When the lymphatic, urinary or intestinal systems become blocked due to a build up of toxins and waste the energy in the body stagnates. This may cause you to feel bloated, lethargic or even sick. During treatment this boost in blood circulation increases the delivery of oxygen and nutrients rejuvenating tired cells and tissues giving you a new lease of life.

These days many of our problems can be linked to stress due to our busy lifestyles, which in large amounts can lead to various symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, digestive disorders, muscular pain and hormonal imbalances. As reflexology can be pleasurable and very relaxing to receive, it has a soothing effect on the body both physically and emotionally promoting overall better health.

Although there is evidence to support Reflexology compliments cancer treatment, pregnancy, IVF, depression, it is not advised that it is seen as a medical substitute but simply as an alternative therapy which offers many benefits for long term health and deep relaxation.

To book a reflexology appointment with me on either a Wednesday between 3.30-8.30pm or a Saturday between 10-3.30pm email [email protected] or call Good Vibes Studios on 020 7240 6111
