Week Nine

Nahid rediscovers her wardrobe

I usually don't need an excuse to buy clothes and shoes nor am I shy about wearing a bit of tight lycra even when I'm feeling rounder - I don’t really mind a curve and a bit of shape here and there. I thoroughly intend to grow old disgracefully and wear whatever I fancy, whenever I like.
What I seem to want right here, right now is; a bit more cinching with belts here and wearing things a tad shorter there. A tight Marc Jacobs striped wool dress (horizontal stripes!) bare legs and heels for a relaxed lunch at the end of the week. A leather Balenciaga zip up dress that was in the sales, it fits like a tight glove. I've been pulling out my old clothes, rediscovering old gems - I never throw anything away. Last week I wore a secondhand knitted skirt, I bought it when I was 15.
I have a beautiful pair of wide legged kingfisher blue silk satin trousers ( Joseph, 10 years ago) they are totally unforgiving. Every ripple, every bulge, everything you had for dinner is broadcast loud and clear. I am going to wear them to a party next weekend with gold heels, a purple halter neck top and a wide yellow belt – very Halston.
I have a Paul and Joe draped top with tiny sleeves and it isn’t such a struggle to get my arms in. The Liberty print black and gold bikini is looking mighty fine, I’ll now need to book the flight and holiday. I won’t be shy for my first unveiling of the year on a beach in Goa later on this month - oh no!
I’ve also got my eye on a rather pretty little Moschino playsuit that looks like it was designed for a teeny little 14 year old boy. Joy! You might have gathered that I don’t prescribe to Dress For Your Age type thinking. How boring would it be if everyone wore age appropriate clothing. Lord, save me from beige. Embrace your inner mutton I say!
As we are on the subject of good sartorial choices, check out my friend Pippa (to the right) and her favoured outfit of choice for a Power-Plate session at Good Vibes - love it! Last time she came in we both trained in hats - me in a gold sequined beret, her in a Faye Dunaway looky-likey number - Darren (lovely trainer) left us to it. Pippa has a delightful clothes shop called Shop at Maison Bertaux under a cake shop - I know! Can you get more magnificent ? Do pop in, the link is here.
I also found a fair few new shops by using a soundmap walking tour, I hadn't been to King's Road for ages it was really fun thing to do on a Sunday when I was on my lonesome. Have a search through the time for one website for great ideas on new things to try.
I am thinking of holding a clothes swap party at one of the studios, it'll be a good chance to meet other Good Vibes lovely people, walk away with something new to you and I'll ply you with a bit of pink champagne. It'll be in April when I'm back from my yoga retreat but before 3 of my wisdom teeth get extracted - I know, it's a busy old life. More details soon.
I managed 4 sessions of yoga during the week, as well as my 3 Power-Plate classes ( including a powerful boxing session and great workouts from both Beth and Mel). I sailed through the week of great mountains of work feeling rather on top of things. I blame the steady flow of good food and exercise.
I am taking a client out shopping as all of his clothes are far too big for him and another client has lost 10 cms from her waist! It has been really pleasing seeing the Good Vibes gals develop a certain sass about them and a great excuse to go out shopping.
It wasn’t that hard, we all followed the 80/20 rule - being mindful of
what you eat 80% of the time means you can lapse here and there. If you have more inches to lose then you should follow the
food tips 100% of the time. If we can all do it, so can YOU! Join in
to Drop a Dress Size for spring.
Rachel's ready for shorts
It’s the home stretch and the end of the DDS course is in sight (not that it's been that hard ) I’m feeling so much better about myself. I’ve found myself wanting to go shopping a lot because I feel better about my body. I’ve got some great new T’s and hot slinky jeans. I’m already thinking daisy dukes for the summer to show off the honed and tones legs. I may need some St. Tropez first – Good Vibes may be a ray of sunshine in a corporate world of fitness but my legs still need a bit of bronzing before they can be shown in public.
And, as the Good Vibes strapline says, I feel fabulous naked! Even just walking around my room sans my clothes feels better when I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Waking up in the morning with a flatter stomach is so good! The Power-Plate sessions have developed muscles that I didn’t even know I had.
This last weekend has been a bit off track – circumstances beyond my control – I’m going to be extra good for the last 2 weeks to make up for it (80/20 rule and all that). Even though I haven't been DDS-perfect this weekend I’ve felt good. My abs have been slightly achy thanks to some killer moves from Abbi
and Mel last week. Harder, faster and stronger to the end!
Kate's going to buy a pair of skinny jeans
I have really enjoyed this week. I'm still cooking my meals which is great as I know what is in them and I can add or take things out that I think work for me or don't. I am now beginning to see real results in terms of the things I wear. My jeans are falling off me. However, to look at me (yes naked) I don't think I am noticeably smaller, but the clothes and the tape measure say different. So ladies, don't fear, we always think the worst about our bodies but clothes are a really good indicator of how well your doing. It is very satisfying putting on anything I want to now and not feel to paranoid about it being tight.
As it is the end of the month and we get paid, I think I will venture
out and try for the skinny jean. It has been a a look I have wanted
to try but never had the confidence to do so. It's a big step for me!
Steph shows off her arms
I've never really needed an excuse to go shopping, but losing a few inches here and there has give me a new impetus. I haven't been reaching for the body-con dresses, as that's never really been me - I go to art school and dressing tends not to be about flattering your figure. I've been trying a few styles which I think a few weeks ago I might not have carried off. I'm feeling more confident about my arms so am going sleeveless a lot more and although I haven't purchased as yet; I'm eyeing up the new seasons shorts and skirts. I cannot wait to pop on a flat marni-esque sandal and get the pins out...roll on Spring. I love summer dressing so much that every year I have to judge the socially acceptability of wearing a tightless leg or a summer sandal in March.
I have been bashing the tight jeans of late as I think they're fitting really well and am definitely seeing a change to my tummy. It's so much easier to dress when you don't feel you have to conceal certain areas.
I'm feeling really good at the moment, Nahid has showered me with a few compliments recently, I haven't had too many from the boyf as yet but I think it's the people who haven't seen you in a while who notice the most. With not long to go I shall be juicing for dear life and eating lots of goji berries which are recommended for the onset of flu I'm about to have! I won't let it ruin my efforts for the last two weeks though.

My tip is eat something simple before you go out to a cocktail party, vegetable soup is a good choice. It'll be easier to avoid the fatty canapes that way.
